Rock On

I recently returned from a trip to Sedona, Arizona. It was an amazing experience. If you've been there, you can vouch for its beauty and warm energy.

Sedona is known for its many vortex sites, including Cathedral Rock. I felt called here on the first day, as I heard the climb to the top was breathtaking. I’m not a climber, but I heard this was a doable climb, so I decided to give it a try.

It was a challenging hike for a novice like me. I made it to the top and back down in time to catch the shuttle bus back to the parking lot, so that was a success!

During my hike, I made a few reflections.

  • I could have stopped halfway up the climb, but I decided to push myself to see what I could do. It reminded me that in life, we often get comfortable, doing the same things repeatedly. It’s important to push ourselves out of our comfort zones now and then.

  • There was a primary trail leading to the top, but many smaller paths branched off along the way. Each person’s experience was similar yet different, depending on the path they chose. I like the idea of being “guided” yet free to choose our own way, just like in life.

  • Early in the climb, I realized it was easier to work with the rock rather than force my own way. I often found myself zigzagging up the steeper parts of the rock, which was much easier (and safer) than trying to go straight up. It reminded me that going with the flow often requires less energy—and can be safer—than pushing straight through challenges.

  • I knew the view at the top of Cathedral Rock would be amazing, but I didn’t wait until the top to pause and take in the beauty around me. It’s important to take breaks along the way, appreciate the scenery, and acknowledge how far we’ve come.

Sedona and Cathedral Rock were incredible experiences, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have spent time there. I also realized that I can challenge myself wherever I am. Sometimes a change of scenery inspires us to try something new or challenging. Here’s to discovering joy, beauty, and new challenges, wherever life takes you.
